The price of commercial premises varies greatly depending on the area. Salons in city centers or busy shopping areas can be fantastic for attracting new customers and thus making money, but the rent is also priced accordingly. For a new hairdresser, it often makes the most sense to start their salon at home, in a room that is not used, or maybe a garage that can be converted.
There are salons where you rent a single spot and therefore only pay part of the rent, making it affordable to be in a city center or a busy shopping area. Most salons of this type can be found by using Facebook groups or Google.
The costs of buying styling chairs, wash stations, mirrors, and other equipment will vary depending on brand, quality, and how many customer stations you need. I would recommend making a budget of 20,000 DKK to buy furniture and equipment. Brands like Comfortel Furniture are an obvious choice if you are focused on price but do not want to compromise on quality.
Many choose to finance their furniture so they don’t have to pay all the money upfront. You can read more about financing here.
The costs of establishing and marketing your salon, including signage, promotional materials, and building an online presence, should also be considered. You can go a long way by being active on social media, having a simple roadside sign, and getting your family and friends to spread the word. A good tip is to offer your existing customers a 10% discount every time they refer a new customer to you.
If you plan to hire staff, you need to consider salary costs, insurance, and other personnel expenses. If you have a good network of hairdressers, you can use each other to share costs. Most start alone to try out the independent life.

It is almost impossible to say what a salon costs. It’s a bit like asking which car is best: it entirely depends on what your plans are. A Mini Cooper is incredibly fun to drive but not very practical if you need to take the whole family to Italy.
